If you do work around structure constructed prior to 1978 you must now have a Lead Based-Paint Renovation, Repair and Painting Certification or you might be fined upwards of $37,500.

What is EPA’s New Renovation Repair and Painting (RRP) Rule?

The Lead Safety Paint Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule are a state regulatory program involving anyone who “disturbs” painted surfaces where lead possibly present.

To keep abreast with the new regulatory essentials of this rule you must:

  • Pass on an application to the EPA to certify your business firm.
  • At least one employee in company must attend an 8-hour Renovators Certification Course, and take a refresher course every 5 years.
  • Certified Renovator Course students must demo “hands-on” capability and pass a written test.
  • Provide tenants, owners, and child-care facilities with a transcript of EPA’s lead hazard data pamphlet: “Renovate Right: Important Lead Hazard Information for Families, Child Care Providers, and Schools.”
