EPA RRP Lead Certification Class

Richmond, Virginia – The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has in agreement to prolong the deadline for its recently lead paint certification. CE professionals must enroll in EPA training by Sept. 30, 2010 and accomplished training by Dec. 31, 2010.

The EPA has also held an agreement to “provide additional trainers in areas of need.” The federal agency says most states don’t have “sufficient certified trainers to educate contractors on these new requirements. For example, there’s just one trainer in Richmond and three in the entire state of Virginia, as well as 3 in other states.

Who are required to take Lead Certification Class?

The “Lead: Renovation, Repair and Paint (RRP) Rule” came in effect April 22, 2010. It asks those who work in dwellings constructed before 1978 to be EPA certified. A construction firm that would like to do renovations for compensation required to attend lead certification class and ask EPA certification. All individuals doing renovation activities for the firm are demanded to take an 8-hour training course from an EPA-accredited training provider such as ABLE Safety Consulting.

Those not in federal agency compliance are subjected to face fines of $37,500 per day.
